Alecta Fastigheter's coworking concept, Flexiwork, has opened the new facility, Kollektivet, in the property "Vi på Hörnet" in Gothenburg. What appears from the outside to be just another office building (even though it is located unusually close to Ullevi) surprises visitors the moment they open the entrance door - using Parakey - into Kollektivet. The focus is on sustainability and reuse, with a clear connection to the 60s and 70s, while the space has been updated with modern technology. Parakey is one of the smart solutions implemented, providing flexible and smooth mobile access to the preserved original doors.

Flexibility at its best

We meet Caroline Wallner, site manager, and Camilla Landström, event and customer coordinator, who proudly give us a tour of the impressive space spanning three floors, where Parakey Door Handle is installed on all doors.

Flexibility permeates the entire coworking concept, the work environment, and even the name Flexiwork - offering flexible agreements and solutions to meet their members' needs. Caroline and Camilla agree that mobile access from Parakey aligns with their offering by delivering flexible, seamless and user-friendly digital access, which can be distributed or withdrawn within seconds in Parakey Web Portal.

"It's super easy to navigate and manage keys in Parakey Web Portal – and it's fast! It feels modern and really great.", says Caroline, who also takes the opportunity to tell us how, during the holiday season, she was able to give access to a contractor while being 700 kilometers away:

"I logged into the web portal on my phone, got the contractor's email address and quickly sent a key. That’s invaluable! It allows operations to continue even when access hasn’t been granted in advance. It really is flexibility at its best."

On the topic of flexibility and convenience, Caroline explains that Alecta Fastigheter also plans to integrate their business system, Nexudus, with the Flexiwork-app to automate access assignments for their members and conference rooms. This is made possible thanks to a built-in Parakey integration that supports Nexudus, a platform focused on coworking and flexible workspaces.

"That was also an important factor in choosing Parakey," says Caroline.

Reuse with modern additions

In developing Kollektivet, Alecta Fastigheter prioritized sustainability and followed the so called "BÅT principle", which stands for Bevarande (Preservation), Återbruk (Reuse), and Tillägg (Addition).

Everything - from woodwork to furniture and interior design - was selected and adapted according to the "BÅT principle", with sustainability’s three pillars in mind: environmental, economic, and social sustainability. The primary focus was on preserving and reusing as much as possible, with additions made only where necessary to meet modern standards:

"Of course, it’s crucial that it feels fresh, modern, and user-friendly," says Caroline.

For instance, old fixtures have been repainted and fitted with LED lighting, and original doors have been given vibrant colors, enriched with Parakey, and can now be unlocked using a smartphone.

"It’s actually pretty cool: all the doors here at Kollektivet are either from this property or from our other facility, Hovet, so everything is reused," says Camilla.

By adding Parakey Door Handle to the original (fully functional) doors, Flexiwork has created a stylish, functional, and sustainable solution at Kollektivet.

Smooth and aesthetically pleasing installation

When we ask Caroline and Camilla about their experience with the installation of Parakey Door Handle, they say it was a very smooth process and that they especially appreciate how minimal the impact was on the preserved doors. The handle is battery-powered and has all electronics integrated within, meaning the existing lock case in the door could be reused, eliminating the need for wiring.

"Since we put so much effort into the property and preserving all the doors, we naturally wanted to make as little impact on them as possible. That’s why Parakey has been fantastic," says Camilla. Caroline adds:

"And when we needed an additional installation, I was really surprised at how quickly it was done. The installer was here for five minutes, and then it was finished. That was awesome."

A huge thank you to Caroline and Camilla—we highly recommend visiting Kollektivet if you’re in Gothenburg!
